Google’s newest toy launched on Wednesday and has taken the web by storm. Google Drive has been a rumor for quite a while and was certainly an inevitable move for the company, but the functionality remains very similar to Dropbox. You might say it’s just Dropbox in your Google Account. With that being said, I’ve not found a reason to make the switch. This made especially so given the pricing-change Google just put into effect.

With that in mind, I wanted to send an encouraging note to the Dropbox team assuring them of my continued loyalty. Yes, it was poem time.

GDrive is cool, but Dropbox is better.
Files, I need them. I love this sweet getter.

So fear not for future, present or past, 
As two cannot change, and one sure won’t last.

Despite what you think, and see written in rhyme,
I do a lot more than just waste precious time.

So when you get ready to close this help ticket,
Please pat your own back and those who work with it. … You. Work with you.

And another 5Gb bump, bringing my current Dropbox size to 25Gb. THIS is why I will never switch from Dropbox. I love those guys.

I sat down and began to pen a story that undoubtedly violates every established rule and guideline for structure and meter. Nonetheless, the result was a 56-line tongue-in-cheek poke at The Night Before Christmas that ended with a request for additional storage space on the Dropbox service. I was quite happy with the result and sent it on it’s merry way.

Christmas Eve by Jordan Finnigan

Let me tell you a story,
One written by me.
Though, I hope it won’t bore you,
I make no guarantee.

The year: twenty-ten;
The place: my abode.
I just got an email,
but t’was written in code.

I dashed up the stairs,
to get my thesaurus.
Then jumped in my car:
A really old Taurus.

I drove kinda speedy,
turning this way and that.
What’s that in the road?
Just a stupid old cat.

I headed to John’s house,
To unlock a clue.
The first word said ‘Dropbox’;
And the eve we pushed through.

All through the night,
Our heads did not stop;
All through the night,
’til we wanted to drop.

Morning came quicker
than you would ever believe;
This day had a name;
It was called ‘Christmas Eve’.

I wandered on home;
The code, it was cracked!
But first, with the toilet
Did I want to transact.

I read it once more,
To ensure I still got it;
I had to be sure,
Else I forgot it.

The phrase was so simple, 
As a child’s toy blocks.
The words writ in bold,
Stated ‘Dropbox Rocks’.

Now the story’s not over, 
You had better believe.
Though, if you need one,
I’ll allow a reprieve.

“Welcome back!” said the teller,
Of this story, in vain.
For he knows you kept reading,
And he feels your same pain.

“What’s the point?” you might ask,
As I ramble, a fool.
“I’ll tell you.” I say,
As I love your sync tool.

You, hopes the teller,
will this story appease;
At which point he’ll ask
“More space, pretty please?”

Within two-hours, I had received a response from Dropbox support specialist Ryan that was both witty and succinct:

Roses are red, Dropbox is blue,
I gave you some space, your wish did come true!

And just like that Ryan had bumped up my storage limit by about 5Gb, leaving me with ~12Gb and a huge grin on my face.
